Shweta Tripathi Steps Into Production With Focus on Women and Queer Stories

Actor Shweta Tripathi is taking on a new role behind the camera, launching her production journey with a clear focus: supporting women-led and queer narratives.

For Tripathi, the move into production is not simply a professional milestone. She describes it as a deeply personal decision shaped by the kinds of stories she believes deserve more space.

Choosing Stories With Purpose

“It feels like the right path,” she said, explaining that meaningful change in the industry requires active participation.

Tripathi believes stories centred on women and queer lives have always existed, but have not consistently been given the platform or respect they merit. Now in a position to choose what projects move forward, she says she wants to be intentional.

Her first film as a producer, Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho Meri Jaan, is a queer-led project starring Tilottama Shome. The film is expected to begin production later this year.

Continuing a Commitment to Queer Narratives

This is not Tripathi’s first time backing queer storytelling. She previously supported the stage production of Cock, which toured multiple cities and received a strong audience response.

However, she resists defining these projects purely by category. For her, the focus is on character and emotional truth rather than labels.

Quiet Stories, Lasting Impact

Tripathi says she is drawn to stories that feel intimate and grounded rather than sensational. She wants to support films where characters are complex and recognisably human — flawed, uncertain, loving, and evolving.

The same approach guides her interest in queer narratives. Rather than amplifying stereotypes or spectacle, she aims to help create stories that feel authentic and lived-in.

As she steps into production, Tripathi’s goal is simple: to give thoughtful, underrepresented stories the room to be seen and heard.
