The breakout queer hockey drama Heated Rivalry is officially coming back - and fans now know when to expect it.
Series creator Jacob Tierney confirmed that the hit show will return for a second season in April 2027, assuring viewers that new episodes are on the way “as soon as humanly possible.”

Speaking on CBS Mornings, Tierney revealed that the writers’ room is already underway, with production set to begin filming this August.
“There will be more Heated Rivalry on your TVs, like, truly, as soon as humanly possible,” he said.
The announcement comes after months of speculation about the future of the series, which quickly became a viral success following its 2025 debut.

Adapted from Rachel Reid’s beloved Game Changers novels - including the fan-favorite book Heated Rivalry - the series follows rival professional hockey players Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov as competition turns into a secret romance.
Shane, a star for the fictional Montreal Metros, is played by Hudson Williams, while Ilya, representing the Boston Raiders, is portrayed by Connor Storrie.
The show’s mix of intense on-ice action and emotionally layered LGBTQ+ storytelling has helped it stand out in the crowded sports drama landscape. The next installment in her Game Changers series, Unrivaled, was originally scheduled for release in September 2026. However, Reid announced the publication date has been pushed to June 1, 2027, citing worsening symptoms related to Parkinson’s disease.
Reid, who revealed her diagnosis in 2023, explained that physical challenges have slowed her writing process.
“There’s nothing more important to me than Unrivaled being the best book it can possibly be,” she said, adding that she needs additional time to complete the manuscript at the standard readers expect.
